The long-term tiger monitoring project using camera traps kicked off on September 18, 2024, for the 2024-25 season. This year, the focus is on the western buffer zone of Chitwan National Park, Nepal. With an increase in tiger activity and human-tiger conflicts in this area, the goal is to understand tiger movement, behavior, and dispersal patterns to develop strategies to minimize conflicts.
Since its establishment in 2010, the Nepal Tiger Trust has been dedicated to monitoring and protecting the tiger population in the western part of Chitwan National Park and its adjacent buffer zones. This season, the western buffer zone will be divided into four camera trapping blocks.

Block One Details

Area Coverage: The buffer zone along the Rapti River, including community forests such as Radha Krishna, Hariyali Betari, Sadabahar, and Rapti Niyantran.
Camera Locations: Eleven camera trapping sites, each with two cameras.
Duration: Cameras will be placed for fifteen days before moving to the next block.
Monitoring: Tiger technicians will check the camera traps daily.
