The Nepal Tiger Trust (NTT) monitors tigers daily through camera trapping and pugmark tracking. During these field activities, they encounter various situations. On January 26, 2025, the NTT team encountered and arrested a man who was illegally trapping a Ruddy Shelduck. The man was handed over to the Chitwan National Park (CNP) authorities along with the bird trap. He is currently in custody awaiting trial. The Ruddy Shelduck was successfully released into the Narayani River.

The Ruddy Shelduck, also known as the Brahminy Duck, winters in Chitwan National Park in diverse wetlands, including the Narayani and Rapti Rivers. This species makes up about 80% of the total waterfowl population in CNP. Other wintering waterfowl species include the Bar-Headed Goose, Gadwall, Mallard, Common Teal, Goosander, Lesser Whistling Duck, Northern Pintail, and many others. The Demoiselle Crane, a fascinating species, is also seen during its long-distance migration. The park serves as a crucial wintering ground for these birds, adding to its biodiversity and indicating healthy wetland habitats.

On January 26, 2025, Baburam and his tiger monitoring team, consisting of Bishnu Mahato, volunteers, and CF guards, were heading towards the Narayani River. While they saw a man in the distance agricultural field, carrying a duck. The team stopped him and asked about the duck and how he caught it. They asked the man to take them to the trap site and remove the trap. The team then took the man, the duck, and the trap to the nearby Sisawar Guard post and handed them over to the CNP authorities.

The Ruddy Shelduck was placed in a carton box and taken to the Narayani River by CNP game scout Abhishek Mahato and Sisawar CF Guard Ram Krishna Mahato, where it was successfully released. The man was taken to Kasara Park HQ and is in custody, awaiting punishment. The team then continued with their tiger monitoring task.
