The Nepal Tiger Trust (NTT), headquartered in Meghauli village within the buffer zone of Chitwan National Park, Nepal, has been actively involved in tiger monitoring and conservation. In recent years, NTT has also initiated environmental cleanup efforts. The first major cleanup of 2025 took place on February 2nd, covering the entire Meghauli buffer zone community forests along the Rapti River, which borders Chitwan National Park.

Our open model welcomes everyone to participate. This cleanup effort included contributions from the Meghauli Ghatgai Nature Guide Association, Buffer Zone Community Forestry User Groups, Chitwan National Park Management, Nepal Army, ecotourism operators Barahi Jungle Lodge and Meghauli Serai – a Taj Safari, as well as the NTT team and their volunteers.

Environmental pollution, particularly from plastics, poses a significant threat to natural forests. Plastics and other waste materials disrupt ecosystems by altering habitats, introducing toxins into the soil, and breaking critical links in food chains. This pollution endangers the overall health of forest environments and threatens the survival of wildlife populations.

In Meghauli, collective efforts to reduce environmental waste have been implemented. These include the establishment of waste collection bins, reuse of waste materials, education and awareness campaigns, and regular environmental cleanups.
